Grace Presbyterian Church

Children are important to us at Grace.  We welcome and enjoy having children attend worship with us at Grace Presbyterian Church.During the service, a Children’s Sermon is presented.  All children and those who still feel like children regardless of age are invited to hear a special message.  Recognizing that for some preschool children sitting through a sermon can be difficult; we offer an opportunity for children to leave following the Children’s Sermon to spend the remainder of the service with our Guardian Angels.

If parents want, we offer Children’s Worship Kits to help keep their children involved during the service.  These folders help entertain the children while also helping them learn by completing activities relating to the lectionary.

We understand if you are uncomfortable having your child attend worship.  Relax and know that we welcome you and your child – we believe having children attending enhances the service for all that attend.  See the following for some information on how to help make the service more meaningful.

The ABCs for Parents in Worship

A nursery is provided during worship services and the Sunday School hour in room 101 for infants and preschool age children.  Our nursery is staffed by well-trained child care workers who are ably assisted by Guardian Angels, members of Grace Presbyterian Church that lovingly volunteer to help in the nursery.

During the Sunday School hour, children age 2 through Kindergarten are invited to attend Preschool Sunday School.

Sacrament of Baptism

Baptism signifies the beginning of life in Christ, not its completion. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) baptizes children in witness to the truth that God’s love claims people before they are able to respond in faith. In the sacrament of Baptism, the Congregation assumes responsibility for nurturing the baptized person in the Christian life.

Parents, when presenting their child for Baptism, make a promise to provide nurture and guidance within the community of faith until the child is ready to make a personal profession of faith and assume the responsibility of active church membership. Parents wishing to present their child for Baptism are asked to please consult with Rev. Pence or any member of Session (look for somebody wearing a blue nametag) for more information.

Sacrament of The Lord’s Supper or Communion

All the baptized faithful are welcome to share the Lord’s Table with us. Nobody is excluded because of age. At Grace Presbyterian Church, communion is a family event in the household of faith. Baptized children may come with their parents and partake. However, some parents may wish to wait until children are confirmed before they receive communion. We leave this choice to the family.
