Youth Sunday School

Jr High Sunday School, 9:45 am-10:45 am, Room 104, led by Mark Hellberg

In our Junior High Sunday School class, being guided by Scripture and using a blend of resources developed by the PCUSA (Presbyterian Youth Connection Program Designs, We Believe – Professing our Faith), we explore the basics of faith such as God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Faith, Sin and Forgiveness striving to provide a common foundation for the youth. After the basics we explore what it means to be a Christian community by trying to answer questions about who is my neighbor, how can we live with change and how can we minister to others in need…and we have fun playing, games, making bumper stickers and occasionally eating donuts. It is all about celebrating God and the gifts God gives.

Confirmation and Commissioning Class

The Confirmation and Commissioning Class is open to youth in the seventh grade or above who are interested in exploring the call to become a member of Grace. Classes usually start in early February and run through May with the youth that feel called to become members joining the Church on Pentecost Sunday. The class typically meets on Sunday afternoons and studies the basis of being a Presbyterian using the Bible, the Book of Confession and the Study Catechism as key learning aids.
Each youth is paired with a mentor – a church member that works with the youth as the class explores God’s call in the youth’s life. The Confirmation Class usually takes a couple of field trips to explore different Christian traditions and does a mission project. The goal of the class is to help the youth listen for God’s call and help equip them to live in response to God’s action in their lives.

Sr High Sunday School, 9:45-10:45 am,Room 103, led by Jerry Bayless and Sheryl Machen

In our Sr. High Sunday School class, we are exploring “Faith for Life 2″, a curriculum developed by PCUSA. Currently, we are in Section 1 of the 3 part series, ‘The Ten Commandments, A Foundation for Christian Living’. The focus is to show youth how the Ten Commandments have continued to be a powerful influence on faith, as well as shaped our values and actions. We learn about ten major themes of Christian faith and life, and see how the Ten Commandments provide a structure for our lives. The study summarizes the ancient ten words and connects them with ten contemporary words: salvation, revelation, dedication, devotion, recreation, compassion, liberation, faithfulness, transformation, and celebration. We play games as they relate to the scripture, eat breakfast, and share our joys and concerns with each other and God.
