Saturday, December 5 ~ Advent Festival

It’s time to start planning for the upcoming holiday season at Grace.  Plan to be in attendance on Saturday, December 5 to help decorate the sanctuary, sing carols, enjoy our annual soup/chili supper and watch the children and youth perform.

Schedule for the day:

  • 12:30pm ~meet at the church to go to the storage unit, proceed to the storage unit and retrieve the boxes of decorations, return to the church and unload decoration boxes
  • 2:00 to 4:00pm “Hanging of the Greens” ~ be at the church to help decorate.  We need plenty of helpers, so please come.  Bring your 8 foot ladders!
  • 4:30 to 5:00pm ~ Carol sing
  • 5:00 to 6:00pm ~ Soup/chili potluck supper ~ bring your favorite soup or chili or your favorite dessert to share.
  • Following supper, the children and youth will perform.

This promises to be a wonderful afternoon and evening of service and fellowship, so mark your calendars and plan to be there!

Join 6th Grade Sunday School for a trip to Mission Arlington.

The 6th grade Sunday School class has scheduled its annual trip to Mission  Arlington to work  in the Christmas store for Saturday, December 12.  We are  looking for additional people to come along with us.  We never know what our work assignment will be ~ we have helped shoppers pick out gifts, helped  wrap gifts, unloaded trucks and sorted toys!  Whatever the assignment, we  always enjoy the chance to help make the holidays brighter for those less  fortunate.  If you would like to join us, please contact Martha Kinard or Barb Mcallister so that we can make sure we have adequate transportation for everyone.  Plan to spend the morning working.  Then we always “treat” ourselves to lunch before returning to the church.  We hope you will take a  morning to show others that “Love Matters” at Grace

 THANK OFFERING

The Thank Offering is an opportunity for us to express our gratitude for the special blessings in our lives and is collected at our November general meeting, then submitted to Presbyterian Women.  The giving guideline is simply “give as you are blessed”.  Forty percent of this offering supports health ministries throughout the world.  The remaining sixty percent of the offering funds new creative ideas for missions.  Twenty-seven projects received grants from the 2009 Thank Offering.  From nearly 70 requests, the Creative Ministries Offering Committee selected 14 projects in the United States and 13 projects in other parts of the world to receive a total of $684,000.

COOKBOOKS FOR SALE!!   COOKBOOKS FOR SALE!!!!!

We still have about 175 cookbooks left for sale!  If you can help us sell them, we would be most grateful.  If you have friends through book clubs, social clubs, quilting clubs, school friends, craft fairs, etc., please try to sell them as they will make wonderful Christmas presents.  Now that things have slowed down a bit, through the rest of October and November, we will not be selling in the Narthex.  If you need to purchase cookbooks, just contact us; we will be happy to get the books to you.  If you have a business and would like to display the cookbooks, we will also be happy to set that up for you.  We have paid off the publishing costs and the money we make from here on out will go directly to the library at Grace.
